What is Aero Sports Connection (ASC)?
ASC is a volunteer-run, tax-exempt non-profit that has supported ultralight and light-sport pilots since 1994. Nobody here draws a salary — every membership dollar goes toward programs that keep pilots flying legally, safely, and affordably: lifetime pilot ratings, tandem exemptions, FAA peer review, and Aero Connections Magazine.
Who is ASC for?
Anyone flying under FAA Part 103 — powered paraglider (PPG), powered parachute (PPC), weight-shift trike, and fixed-wing ultralight pilots — plus the instructors and students in those disciplines.
What is FAA Part 103?
Part 103 is the FAA regulation covering ultralight vehicles: single-occupant, flown for sport or recreation only, with no airworthiness or pilot certificate required, subject to limits on empty weight, fuel capacity, and airspeed. ASC's peer review and exemption programs operate within this framework.
How do I join ASC?
Visit the Forms page to join or renew a membership and apply for a lifetime pilot rating.
What is a lifetime pilot rating?
Pay once and it never expires. It's printed right on your card, so it can be verified without an internet lookup.
Does ASC charge instructors per-student fees?
No. Unlike some other organizations in this space, ASC charges no per-student fees, so instructors can teach without watching the meter run.
Does ASC require insurance?
No — insurance is entirely your choice. If you do want it, contact us and we can point you in the right direction.
What are ASC's tandem exemptions?
ASC has operated tandem flight exemptions — allowing qualified instructors to carry a student or passenger in a two-seat ultralight-class aircraft — longer than any other organization in this space, and currently has the most instructors under exemption. See Exemption Info for details.
